TANUH receives income-tax charitable registration, 80G-equivalent approval and CSR-1 registration

September 2026

TANUH, the AI Centre of Excellence in Healthcare at IISc Bengaluru, has secured three statutory approvals, establishing it as a registered charitable institution eligible for philanthropic and corporate funding. Income-tax registration and donor-benefit approval, granted on 7 September 2026 for five years, join its Ministry of Corporate Affairs CSR registration, enabling tax-eligible donations and corporate contributions.

TANUH launches AI-enabled Digital Public Infrastructure for healthcare

18th September 2026

TANUH, the AI Centre of Excellence in Healthcare at IISc Bengaluru, has launched its Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for health AI. Built for the scale and diversity of India's health systems, the open platform offers secure, auditable AI tools for anonymising medical records, detecting document forgery, and summarising medical audio in Hindi and Kannada into English.

Launching Voice to MR

TANUH and the Indian Institute of Science, together with the Koita Foundation and the Gates Foundation, are pleased to announce Voice to Medical Records (V2MR), a project that builds AI voice technologies to turn clinician-patient conversations into structured, standards-compliant medical records.

On 5 August 2026, TANUH hosted two expert talks from the Gates Foundation on building and running technology at national scale. Mr Sanjay Jain spoke on the design principles behind billion-people systems, drawing on Aadhaar and UPI, while Mr Suhel Bidani addressed the operational realities of scaling public health programmes.

The World Head & Neck Cancer Day Event (WHNCDE) 2026

July 27th and 28th, 2026

TANUH, Biocon Foundation India and IISc convened the World Head & Neck Cancer Day Event 2026 and the 7th Oral Cancer Task Force Annual Conference at BITS Pilani Goa on July 27–28, bringing together oncologists, public health experts, AI researchers and policymakers to advance India's roadmap towards oral cancer elimination.

ICMR Ethical Guidelines for AI in Health Research Workshop

On 17 July 2026, TANUH and IISc Bengaluru, in collaboration with the ICMR Bioethics Unit, convened a one-day workshop on the ICMR Ethical Guidelines for AI in Health Research. Researchers, clinicians, policymakers, Ethics Committee members, legal experts and AI developers came together to examine the ethical and regulatory considerations shaping responsible AI in healthcare.

Aarogya Aarohan, TANUH's AI-based oral cancer screening tool, has received a CDSCO test licence under Form MD-13 for clinical investigation.

TANUH Institutional Ethics Committee receives ICMR - DHR and CDSCO registrations

July - August 2026

TANUH's Institutional Ethics Committee has secured both of its statutory registrations: with the Department of Health Research, MoHFW (effective 21 July 2026) and with the Central Licensing Authority, CDSCO (effective 11 August 2026). The IEC can now review and approve biomedical and health research as well as clinical trial protocols in-house.

TANUH AI-CoE and CBR Announce Joint Development of IndiNeuroFM

TANUH AI-CoE is please to announce IndiNeuroFM, a joint development with the Centre for Brain Research (CBR) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), to build a sovereign medical foundation model designed specifically for the Indian population.

IndiNeuroFM aims to develop an India specific multimodal bridge for the human brain, a foundation model trained and calibrated on Indian cohorts and clinical realities.

Prof. Phaneendra K. Yalavarthy Joins MoHFW Committee for SAHI Roadmap

Following the launch of the SAHI strategy at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, the National Health Authority has appointed Prof. Phaneendra K. Yalavarthy to its high-level implementation committee.

The SAHI mission aims to integrate AI into healthcare through ethical, evidence-based, and inclusive practices, shaping an equitable digital health future for India.

Following the launch of the SAHI strategy at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, the National Health Authority has appointed Prof. Phaneendra K. Yalavarthy to its high-level implementation committee.

The SAHI mission aims to integrate AI into healthcare through ethical, evidence-based, and inclusive practices, shaping an equitable digital health future for India.

TANUH Wins 3rd Prize at NHCX 2026!

17th March 2026

Team TANUH secured 3rd Prize at the NHCX Hackathon 2026 (IIT Hyderabad) for building an open-source microservice that converts insurance PDFs into NHCX-aligned FHIR bundles.

The award, presented by NHA CEO Shri Sunil Kumar Barnwal, marks our second NHA recognition in two months, reflecting continued efforts toward interoperable digital health infrastructure in India.

Launch of TANUH - Renal Health Vertical

On the occasion of World Kidney Day 2026, TANUH AI-CoE launched its Renal Health Vertical on 12th March 2026, advancing kidney care through AI and clinical collaboration.

With Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) affecting over 850M people globally and an estimated 115M in India, the initiative focuses on AI-driven early detection, risk prediction, and proactive disease management.

On the occasion of World Kidney Day 2026, TANUH AI-CoE launched its Renal Health Vertical on 12th March 2026, advancing kidney care through AI and clinical collaboration.

TANUH team secured Second Position in the Diabetic Retinopathy track at the national-level Federated Intelligence Hackathon, jointly organised by IIT Kanpur, NHA, ICMR, and NIRDHDS.
With 3 models developed by the TANUH team ranked in the top 5, the solution focused on AI-based diabetic retinopathy detection, highlighting TANUH’s leadership in federated learning, responsible AI, and scalable healthcare innovation.

IISc Wins Best Exhibit at IMC 2025

17th October 2025

IISc’s AI-based oral cancer screening tool, Aarogya Aarohan, has won the Best Education Institute Exhibit of the Year at the India Mobile Congress 2025.

Developed by TANUH, in collaboration with ARTPARK and Triveous, this mobile-first, offline-ready tool enables frontline workers to detect early-stage oral cancers in real time. A step towards accessible, AI-powered healthcare in India.
