The AI Centre of Excellence in Healthcare at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore has secured three statutory approvals that establish it as a registered charitable institution eligible for philanthropic and corporate funding.
On 7 September 2026, the Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), Bengaluru, registered the TANUH as a charitable non-profit organisation under Section 332(7)(a) of the Income-tax Act, 2025. In a separate order of the same date, TANUH was granted approval under Section 354(3)(a). These provisions correspond to the erstwhile Sections 12A and 80G. Both are valid for five years, covering tax years 2026-27 to 2030-31.
Earlier, on 25 August 2026, Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), registered TANUH to undertake Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities under registration number CSR00116773.
Together, the approvals allow TANUH to:

  • Receive donations that qualify for tax benefits for donors, subject to applicable law.

  • Receive CSR contributions from companies for programmes aligned with its mission.

"These approvals give TANUH the institutional footing to partner with philanthropies and industry on validated, clinically deployable healthcare AI for India." -
