Team TANUH secured 3rd Prize in Problem Statement 3 (PDF → NHCX-aligned Insurance Plan FHIR Bundle) at the National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX) Hackathon 2026, held at Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad on 6–7 March 2026, organized by the National Health Authority (NHA) as part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The competition received more than 400 registrations from startups and academic teams across India.
Our solution addressed the challenge of converting unstructured insurance policy documents into structured, interoperable data. We developed an open‑source microservice that transforms insurance policy PDFs into NHCX‑aligned FHIR bundles, enabling automated, machine‑readable representation of policy benefits, limits, and exclusions.
Key capabilities of the solution include LLM‑driven extraction of complex insurance information, conversion into validated FHIR resources aligned with NRCeS standards, and a privacy‑first architecture designed for secure on-premise deployment, ensuring that sensitive policy documents can be processed entirely within an organization's local infrastructure.
The award was presented by Shri Sunil Kumar Barnwal, CEO of the National Health Authority, during the award ceremony at IIT Hyderabad. This recognition marks TANUH’s second award from NHA within two months, reflecting our continued work towards building interoperable digital health infrastructure for India.
The project was developed by Mr. Bharath Kumar Tangella, Mr. Venkata Sai Manideep Nanepalli, Dr. Ashwin RaajKumar, and Dr. S. Hema priyadarshini, under the mentorship of Prof. Phaneendra Yalavarthy.
