Our team from TANUH achieved an outstanding performance at the Federated Intelligence Hackathon, jointly organised by Indian Institute Of Technology, Kanpur (IITK), National Health Authority (NHA), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and National Institute of Digital Health and Data Science (NIRDHDS).
The TANUH team secured Second Position in the Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) track, with a remarkable achievement of occupying three of the top five ranks in this highly competitive national-level hackathon. The event brought together interdisciplinary teams from across the country to develop scalable AI solutions for real-world healthcare challenges.
The award-winning team was led by Dr. Vaanathi Sundaresan, Vertical Lead for Federated Learning at TANUH, who provided overall technical and strategic leadership. The team also included Dr.Aditya Barigali, who contributed critical clinical expertise, data quality assessment, and label validation, ensuring strong clinical relevance and robustness of the solution. The engineering team comprised Suresh Sunkari, Tarun Garg, Venkata Sai Manideep Nanepalli, and Bharath Kumar Tangella, who played a key role in system design, model development, and implementation.
The team’s solution focused on AI-based diabetic retinopathy detection, which directly aligns with national priorities on scalability, and equitable deployment of AI in healthcare, particularly for large-scale screening programs. This achievement highlights TANUH’s growing leadership in translational AI, federated learning, and clinically driven innovation, and reinforces its commitment to developing responsible, privacy-preserving AI solutions for population health.
